Some R Beautiful – Jon Scott (Caravan Music) This CD wins me over because I can hear Jon's charismatic smile in his music. Overall I sense that Jon may be a little undecided as to what musical style suits him best, so aided by famous ex-Chaka Khan/Heatwave producer, Gordon Hulbert, he’s tried a bit of this and a bit of that. I’d like to think his roots are in 1970-80’s soul/disco, as the tracks showing that influence work far better than others encumbered with monotonous 1980-90s dance beats. But whatever the style, there’s that smile to warm you through – and if you buy the CD you get more smiles on the inside sleeve, some even better than the one on the cover. And I suspect Mr Scott would be a great live act to see. - Kinski, Dec 07 |
