A welcome from Kinski
For the last few years I've been lucky enough to have the job of providing a page of CD reviews for Kindred Spirit, the long-running UK-based new age, mind body spirit (MBS) magazine.
Kindred Spirit don't archive my reviews on their website so I thought I'd do it myself here – it seems a shame that each month's reviews and sample tracks should disappear from cyberspace once the next issue of KS comes out!

Beyond the new age...
Although
Kindred Spirit is essentially a new age magazine I like to explore well beyond the new age music genre as I feel most KS readers probably do too. New age and relaxation music certainly provides a common reference point for this website, but really the endeavour is to provide an enjoyable resource for all you 'kindred spirits' who are drawn to find new music that is more positive, touches the heart, or that resonates a little deeper in the spirit, irrespective of genre.

A place to feel at home
I don't know about you, but I find the sheer scope of the wwweb and all its possibilities quite daunting at times. With so many places offering the chance to sample new music it is easy to get lost in all the choice. I'd like to see this website as being a bit like a favourite coffee shop which you can always count on to suit your taste and style, whilst also offering something a little different if the mood takes you.

So please pop by once in a while and check out the new sample tracks, and if there's something you like the sound of then please use the links to Amazon where you can because the commission they pay is how this 'coffee shop' can afford to stay open. Thanks! - Kinski, August 2007

What you'll find on this site
Along with the reviews and sample tracks you'll find a smattering of news and articles – plus handy links that go directly to items on both Amazon.co.uk and .com.
Amazon consistently offer the best prices for most CDs because of their marvellous MarketPlace – check it out if you are not familiar with this form of recycling!

NEW AGE / RELAXATION MUSIC including Ambient

Although a lot of the music in this category might display strong world music influences for example, its primary aim of aiding relaxation usually defines this category pretty clearly.

WORLD MUSIC for mind body spirit, incl. Native American Indian music

Apart from the ambiguity posed by western folk music (which is catered for elsewhere), this section is reasonably self-explanatory – though do check the New Age section for world music that is primarily for relaxation.

CLASSICAL / ART MUSIC including experimental works

This is obviously not an exhaustive listing but periodically Kinski likes to draw upon classical music that might appeal to the Kindred Spirit readership, or that is in some way related to the new age music genre. Here you will also find a smattering of 'art music' – for the more adventurous!

POP / ROCK / FOLK MUSIC

CDs in this category may show influences of jazz, classical, world music and other genres, and sometimes all that distinguishes them from 'mainstream' acts is the lyrical content, which is likely to be more life-affirming, and less about the pains of romantic love! The newly defined 'poz music' (positive music) falls into this category.
Singer-songwriters (also included here) are popular within the mind-body-spirit new age arena – probably because they represent the more intimate, individual 'grassroots' performer.

ARTICLES
Now and then, Kinski has written themed reviews supported by thought-provoking articles for Kindred Spirit. Where appropriate, these are reproduced here.
